The
Burbank Public Library is seeking to expand its international collection of
books and audiovisual materials. In
support of this effort, the Armenian National Committee of Burbank has launched
its “Books for Burbank” project to expand the Library’s collection of books on Armenian
history and culture.
Please help the Library meet
its goals by donating a book at the Circulation Desk. We would welcome new or gently used books for adults or children,
in English or Armenian. Books may be
donated in your honor, or in memory of a loved one, through the Library’s
“Adopt-A-Book” program.
Thank you for passing the torch
of knowledge to future generations in Burbank.

ANC-BURBANK LAUNCHES BOOK DRIVE TO BOOST INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION AT
BURBANK LIBRARIES
First Phase of “Books for Burbank” Project to Donate Books on
Armenian History and Genocide
February 9, 2004 (Burbank, Calif.) – In an effort to enhance the international book collections at Burbank public libraries, the Armenian National Committee of Burbank is working with Burbank Board of Education member, Paul Krekorian, and the City of Burbank Library Services to organize a book drive to collect a broad array of books on Armenian history, language and culture.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Armenian community to share its cultural wealth and make a lasting contribution to our local libraries. Every book that is donated will not only enhance the library collections but more importantly it will help promote cultural understanding and awareness among all communities in Burbank,” explained ANC-Burbank member Tamar Krekorian who is spearheading the book drive.
The idea for the book drive was initiated by Sharon Cohen, Burbank’s Director of Library Services, who approached Paul Krekorian regarding the need for community contributions to the international sections. Especially in light of impending state and county budget reductions, contributions of new and gently-used books, in English or Armenian, will make an enormous difference in the library’s ability to service its Armenian patrons.
“We are pleased the ANC-Burbank has taken on this important initiative at a time when our libraries need the support and participation of our communities more than ever,” stated Cohen. “In an area as diverse as Burbank, it is important that our international collections reflect that cultural mosaic.”
The first phase of Books for Burbank was launched this week and will focus on the collection of books on Armenian history and the Armenian Genocide. Books may be donated at the Sardarabad Armenian bookstore at 1111 S. Glendale Avenue #106 Phone: 818-500-0790, or at the Burbank Central Library located at 110 North Glenoaks Blvd. The first round of books is due to the Central Library by early March 2004. Toward that end, Sardarabad bookstore will be hosting a book fair on March 6th at the Burbank Central Library from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to provide an opportunity for Burbank community members to purchase and donate books to the library.
